Steep Rock Preserve encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of forest that straddle the wide bends of the Shepaug River in the hills of Washington, Connecticut. My latest print, “Twilight Meadows of Steep Rock”, brings you to a small clearing amongst the trees to catch the spectacular colors of early dawn over ‘Steep Rock’, the namesake hill from which this exquisite conservation land draws its name.

Although meadowland is not prevalent at Steep Rock, much of which bristles with eastern hemlocks, this particular clearing on the western side of the Shepaug River blends seamlessly with the character of the landscape. In “Twilight Meadows of Steep Rock”, dark forests rise from the field edges beneath a canopy of clouds that glow with color in the early moments before the Sun peeks over the horizon. The summit of Steep Rock can be seen in the distance, cloaked in mist and rising gently above the surrounding woodlands. It is this hill from which Steep Rock Preserve draws its name, as the views from that summit are also quite impressive.

If you enjoyed “Twilight Meadows of Steep Rock”, be sure to take a look at some of my other fine art prints from Steep Rock Preserve such as “Autumn Brook at Steep Rock” and “Dawn Over the Shepaug”.
